We took a 10-day training with Brad Swain (Brittany Sailing) on his steel boat (Cornish Legend) in the area of Brest. We appreciated the extensive nautical knowledge of Brad. Not only does he have a broad experience but he also has the technical ability to explain the physics of sailing (center of efforts, lift from the sail, etc...) and demonstrate them in real life during the exercises. Being used to teaching Yachtmachter level, he helped us understand the management of currents, tides, winds as well as passage planning. Brad keeps his cool in all situations and you can see that he is on top of his game. He was able to adapt to the different learning levels of  the participants and help each of us to progress at our own pace.

We strongly recommend Brad and have booked his teaching  services when commissioning our own boat a Boréal 47.2 in January 2022.

Hi Brad Sue,

Really enjoyable week and despite my friend Michael not being there, or perhaps as a result of it, I felt it was really worth the trip to learn so much from someone who not only has a passion for sailing, but also knows how to teach adults, giving you just enough to give you confidence to try things out, but not so much you can't take it all in.

Since this is my first ever sailing experience apart from a day under engine with no wind 5 years ago 15 minutes on a hobie cat 26 years ago before the skipper tool it end over end and a couple of hours in a mirror dinghy, falling out a lot in cubs I was impressed how quickly brad could get things across to such a novice.

Food was top notch, brad, Len and Robert excellent company and all in all an excellent week.

Now back to London and then straight off to my place in France. You're both welcome to break up your journey there assuming we've no guests, just check out the availability on the website Thue.co.uk

It might be worth advertising on holiday letting a or holiday rentals and certainly happy to give a good reference on trip adviser.

Hi, I thoroughly enjoyed the course and it did exactly what I wanted, which was to increase my confidence in general and in particular, in rougher weather. I hadn't anchored or picked up a mooring much before and the course gave plenty of opportunity for that. I felt sorry for 'Bob' as he spent a fair bit of time in the water, and even managed to lose his legs. I thought Brad was an excellent instructor. He was really good at making us work things out for ourselves rather than spoon feed us. His knowledge and experience were obvious and very beneficial. I loved the boat. My boat is 26ft with tiller steering. I was looking for a training boat with tiller steering and the van de stadt felt very sturdy and safe whilst being very comfortable. The food was fantastic. Even when I was in charge of cooking. Your recipes were very easy to follow and were delicious. There was plenty of food for everyone and great choices. Overall I really enjoyed the experience and would happily recommend Brad, the boat and the location to anyone wanting to advance their sailing experience. When I have a few more miles under keel I would love to come back for the coastal skipper etc. Thanks again to Brad and yourself for a very enjoyable and worthwhile week which has given me the experience and confidence I needed to be a bit more adventurous on my own boat. Best regards Robert Hi Sue

Thanks for the recipes - we had a great time and found everything very instructive.

Brad is a very patient man and an excellent teacher.

I would give everything 5 stars!

Hopefully we'll get to take another course with you next summer when we're back.

Good luck with all the exciting plans and look forward to meeting you at some point.

Dear Sue,

I was just sitting down to write to Brad when this arrived.  First of all thank you both for and excellent course (& result).  Thank you also for the very helpful approach for travel connections - not least giving the examiner a lift back to St Malo.

The instructor -  very knowledgeable. Tendency to set tasks at short notice which  was a bit disconnecting at first but helped me build up to the exam.  Course content - very through prep The boat - excellent. As expected. The food - plentiful and good. Shows what can be produced  with fresh ingredients on a small boat - no sign of a pork pie The overall experience - excellent course (& result)

With Best Wishes,

Michael Williams
